Over the years I have met and worked with many estheticians and spa owners. What distinguishes those who succeed from those who play at mediocrity? Attitude. Is enthusiasm the missing ingredient in the treatment room?
Owners who show high levels of enthusiasm running their business and serving clients are happier and more successful.
Being enthusiastic isn’t just a “feel good” thing. Enthusiasm affects your productivity, changes how you lead, and impacts how clients perceive you – which can all impact your business.
When you visit a store or attend an appointment, don’t you want to be greeted by someone with positive energy? Wouldn’t you be more likely to return to a service professional if you felt the good juju?
How Enthusiasm Helps You Succeed In the Beauty Business
Coach and teacher John Wooden consider enthusiasm as a cornerstone of his pyramid of success.
Enthusiasm is a positive state of mind that helps you succeed because of it:
1. Inspires You To Take Action
When you feel positive, inspired, and passionate about a goal, you’re more likely to take the necessary actions. It helps you overcome fears that may be holding you back from stepping up to grow your business.
2. Increases Your Persuasiveness
Enthusiasm supercharges your energy and amplifies your personality. It helps you exude a vitality that draws people to you and inspire others to take action. It’s also an important factor in increasing service and retail sales.
3. Makes You a More Influential Leader
You can’t expect your team to be excited about their work if you aren’t leading by example. By injecting enthusiasm in your day-to-day leadership, you can inspire your team to go the extra mile for your clients.
4. Attracts More Clients To Your Business
When you show enthusiasm, you become naturally magnetic. Clients will be drawn to you because it feels good to be around you and in your environment. The positive energy will make your business feel welcoming to clients.
How To Boost Your Enthusiasm For Beauty Business Success
Sure, some people are just born to be more enthusiastic than others. However, you can boost your enthusiasm by doing the inner work:
1. Align Your Words and Action
It’s often not what you say but how you say it that influences the way others perceive your message. Did you know that 55% of our total communication is delivered by body language, 38% by vocal signals, and only 7% by words?
Your body language and vocal signals are influenced by whether you truly believe in what you say.
Believing in what you say is the key to putting the enthusiasm behind your communication so you can become more persuasive – in a genuine and non-manipulative way.
In addition, if your words and actions aren’t in alignment with each other, your ability to communicate effectively and persuasively will drop dramatically.
If you haven’t already, create a mission statement for your business to help you hone in on your value and align your business with your beliefs.
2. Get Excited About Your Work
I know, running a business isn’t all rainbow and unicorns. But for the most part, we started our businesses because we love what we do.
Get excited about your work and let it show. This will not only boost your enthusiasm but also inspire your team to serve every client with positive energy.
Don’t sit around and wait for inspirations to hit! Do the work to generate the momentum and build up your energy. Focus on what you desire from your business and cultivate your passion by caring about what you do.
Ask your clients about what they like about your services. Knowing how your work is positively impacting others is a great way to jazz yourself up.
In addition, if certain aspects of running your business don’t motivate you, consider outsourcing as many of those tasks as possible so they don’t dampen your energy.
3. Create a Positive Environment
It’s important to work and live in a place that inspires you and feeds your energy.
Your physical surrounding has a big impact on your productivity and creativity. Keep your workspace clutter-free, ensure proper ventilation, add some plants, and introduce as much natural light as possible.
Your work environment also includes the people you surround yourself with. Create a supportive work environment by cultivating win-win relationships. Associate yourself with people who are enthusiastic about their work and be mindful about toxic relationships that drain your energy.
Having yourself and your team “dress the part” also sets the right tone and creates an environment that puts everyone in the right mindset. It projects a professional image and boosts your confidence.
4. Maintain Good Health
It’s almost impossible to be energetic and enthusiastic if you aren’t feeling well.
Eat wholesome and nutritious foods, prioritize self-care, exercise to boost endorphins (the happy hormone,) and make sure you’re getting enough rest.
Besides maintaining your physical health, you should also take care of your mental wellbeing.
For example, develop a ritual that helps you focus on your goals and prime your brain for success. Have a set of daily habits that shift your mindset to the right “channel” when you start the day.
My other favorite ways to keep the enthusiasm up includes giving back and practicing gratitude. Doing so helps me connect with others and create a positive energy that’s contagious and magnetic.
